Heteranthera zosterifolia is a stem plant from South America with star-shaped leaves, which looks particularly good in the background or middle ground of larger aquariums. It is fast growing and easily pruned, willingly developing numerous side shoots and a bushy growth habit. A good supply of nutrients is important for healthy growth of this otherwise easy-care plant. Especially with a lack of nitrogen (NO3), the leaves become transparent relatively quickly, which is why Heteranthera zosterifolia is a good indicator for this nutrient. Since it often develops its small, blue flowers on the shoots floating on the water surface, it is particularly interesting for open aquariums.
