Although the long-leaved Barclaya has been known in aquaristics for a very long time, it is a rarity today because it is rarely available. Visually, Barclaya longifolia closely resembles a Cryptocoryne, although it belongs to the water lily family. This plant is particularly beautiful because of its long leaves, which can take on an intense red color. Due to its size, it is ideal for the background or as a solitary plant, in correspondingly large aquariums also for the middle ground. Barclaya longifolia likes soft, warm water, which is optimally between 24 and 28°C, and nutrient-rich soil. When planting the bulb, make sure that it is not planted too deep and that it is best still sticking out a little from the substrate. It can happen that this plant takes a break after a while, during which it sheds all its leaves - it is best not to move it in this phase, it will sprout again on its own. Good fertilization can shorten these resting phases or even prevent them entirely.
