Filter sponges have a long, but not an unlimited service life. After several rinses it becomes harder to remove all the dirt and this leads to water pollution. That’s why the filter sponges need to be removed from time to time (it is unfortunately impossible to state how often). As a rule: rinse 10 times, then replace.
