The Dwarf Molly is a more muted colored but pretty fish that is very rarely available. Yellow scales can be seen on the brownish to silvery basic coloration, especially in the middle part of the body, and the belly area is bluish in colour. It has its distribution area in South and Central America and grows up to 3.5 cm in size.
Care in the aquarium
The peaceful and rather calm fish needs an aquarium volume of at least 54 liters and medium-hard water. The water should also be around 22 - 26°C and have a pH between 6.5 and 8.0. Poecilia chica feels most comfortable in a group of at least 10 animals. A socialization with peaceful, similarly sized fish is quite possible.
Feeding
The Small Mollynesier can be fed with smaller live and frozen food such as water fleas, Artemia and mosquito larvae, commercially available fish food and green food. Seaweed is also on his menu.
Sexual characteristics and breeding
The males of the Small Mollynesier remain slightly smaller at around 3 cm than the females, which can grow to 3.5 cm. During courtship, the males also have a deep black color and are therefore easy to distinguish from the plainer colored females.
After a gestation period of 30 days, the female gives birth to 30-50 young. Sexual maturity is reached after about 4 months.
