A relatively new aquarium plant is Pogostemon quadrifolius (four-leaf star plant) from Laos. The species is very closely related to Pogostemon stellatus and is characterized by long, narrow leaves that are light green to slightly bronze or purple in color. This new stem plant is sometimes also referred to as Pogostemon stellatus 'Octopus'. It is very fast-growing and can be described as moderately difficult to care for, since it does quite fine in moderate lighting and without the addition of CO2. In order to quickly achieve a dense group of plants, the plant stock should be planted again and again using top cuttings. The side shoots can also be used, they grow a little slower and are therefore also recommended for nano cubes.
