Bucephalandra belong to the Aracaea genus. These plants are naturally found only on the island of Borneo. They are endemics, i.e. plants that only grow in a small, specific area. Bucephalandra can be attached to roots, wood or coconuts. However, according to experience, they grow best on rock. Lava rock, granite or slabs of slate are used for this purpose, for example, because they also adhere well to smooth rock. They do very well with low light and small amounts of fertilizer.
