The Scarlet Barnacle originally comes from clear and slow-flowing streams in India. Stones, wood, dense vegetation and other hiding places are recommended as furnishings so that the Dario dario has a feeling of security and can retreat if necessary. This extremely peaceful fish should be kept in groups and can also be socialized with other small and peaceful fish. Dwarf shrimp shouldn't be a problem either, as long as the young shrimp have enough hiding places.

Dario dario is difficult or impossible to get used to commercially available fish food and should therefore be fed with live and frozen food.

Dario tigris can usually be bred in the species tank as long as the water parameters are right and the aquarium is well established. After a successful courtship ceremony, the male and female entwine and the female spawns the eggs freely on mosses and fine-leaved plants. The Black Tiger Dario does not take care of the brood, but the male defends the eggs in its territory. At the latest after the young fish have hatched, they should be transferred to a rearing tank or the parents should be removed from this, as they prey on the young animals. The young Dario dario are reared with very fine live food such as rotifers, copepods or freshly hatched Artemia nauplii.

Dario tigris originally comes from Southeast Asia, where it is widespread in India, Myanmar and Thailand. Its natural habitat consists of long and slow flowing waters. The males have red fins and horizontal stripes, and a black pattern in the head area. The females are much less intensely colored. This species is quite peaceful, although males can become aggressive during the spawning season and defend a small territory.

Note on sex selection in Dario dario:
If possible, the delivery takes place in pairs.
Dario dario females are hard to come by, though. Younger males often disguise themselves as females in the group to avoid aggression from the more dominant animals. They lose their color and attract as little attention as possible. Therefore, it is very difficult to determine safe females.
We select the sexes when catching to the best of our knowledge and belief, but cannot guarantee that an apparent female is actually one. We therefore ask for your understanding that we cannot accept any reclamations regarding the sex of the animals.
