Moss balls are not only decorative, they also fulfill a number of useful tasks in the aquarium. They improve the water quality by filtering various pollutants such as nitrites and nitrates out of the water. Shrimp like to graze the moss balls, since biofilm and food particles can be found on its surface. Therefore, the numerous tiny threads offer an ideal nursery for young shrimp. Even if the name does not suggest it, the moss ball is a cultivated and beautiful type of algae, which naturally forms this spherical shape in water with strong currents, by intertwining its hairs closely. Our moss balls are neither fertilized nor treated with various agents, so that they can be placed in the aquarium without hesitation after a short rinse. To preserve the round shape, the balls should be moved (rotated) to a different position from time to time.
Layout tip: Cut the moss ball into 2 parts and then attach them to the ground. This way, great meadow landscapes can be created in the aquarium and the shrimp will love it!
